Biomedical Engineer Technician

$86,500 per annum plus benefits –12 month contract

Key objectives of this important role are to improve accessibility and condition of biomedical equipment resources throughout the Pacific island nations of Tuvalu, Kiribati and Nauru along with increasing the capacity of biomedical staff and technicians to manage, repair and maintain medical equipment. You are a ’can do’ person who can turn your hand to a wide range of activities stretching from theatre to x-ray maintenance, prepared to travel extensively to outer islands and other Pacific Islands on a regular basis.
Develop national guidelines for biomedical equipment management. Provide and recommend in service training for medical, nursing and health staff. Handle performance, safety testing, repair, maintenance of medical, laboratory and x-ray equipment.

Maintenance Trainer (Electronic Engineer)

Two year (start Oct 2009 or early 2010)

Work with a hospital that holds a special place in the hearts of Australians in Bali. Following the Bali bombings in 2002, the Australian Government has provided significant support to the 738-bed, government-owned Sanglah Hospital. This role builds on that support and from the work of the previous AVI volunteer, placed in 2005. The Hospital serves as a referral hospital for the provinces of Bali, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) and Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB). A qualified and experienced maintenance trainer is being sought to train staff and develop sustainable systems and procedures in relation to hospital buildings and maintenance.

Sanglah Hospital, Bali

Medical Equipment Technician Adviser

13 months

Sanglah is 738-bed government-owned enterprise that serves as a referral hospital for the local provinces. The hospital offers an extensive range of specialist services including cardiology, intensive care, burns and trauma and a busy accident and emergency service, as well as more routine obstetrics and gynaecology, surgery, medicine, paediatrics and diagnostic services. As part of the hospital’s capacity building program, there now exists a need to further develop the technical skills of the medical equipment maintenance staff. This provides an opportunity for a suitably qualified person to share your relevant skills and experience. The duties will involve developing Standard Policies, Practices and Procedures for medical equipment maintenance and training and mentoring staff in these areas.
