The Australian SMBE groups are affiliated with the AFMBE
& IFMBE, Australian and international bodies
for medical and biological engineering. Within Australia, the societies
work closely with Eng Aust CBmE and ACPSEM
for arranging joint technical meetings and national conferences.
AFMBE - Australian Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering
The AFMBE is the Australian organisation representing national
interests in medical and biological engineering. The state SMBE organisations pay a small fee for each member to the AFMBE that enables affiliation with the IFMBE.

IFMBE - International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering
The IFMBE is
a federation of national and transnational organizations representing
national interests in medical and biological engineering. All SMBE members are IFMBE members and have free access to the IFMBE News, IFMBE Proceedings and MBEC journal. Details on the publications page.

Engineers Australia College of Biomedical Engineering
The Engineers
Australia CBmE has three specific separate committees dealing
with specific topics of biomedical engineering: Rehabilitation Engineering,
Clinical Engineering, and Biomechanics of Impact Injury. The College
has two Annual Awards:
- David Dewhurst Award
- Young Biomedical Engineer of Year Award

in Medicine
The ACPSEM
represents physical scientists and engineers who provide a broad
range of professional services to the medical community.
